Entry #7. Fresh

The movie "Fresh" provides a riveting and eye-opening portrayal of the farming industry. Through its lens, we see the stark dichotomy between the idyllic image of the countryside and the harsh reality of animal mistreatment and overprocessed farming techniques. Watching the film, I was shocked by the lack of care many farms show towards their animals and the environment. However, it also highlighted the problematic reality these farms face in trying to meet the demands of a growing population in the United States. Despite the disheartening scenes, "Fresh" provides a powerful and necessary critique of the farming industry and encourages us to consider the impact of our food choices on animals and the planet.

At the film's beginning, we are introduced to a couple named Mr. and Mrs. Fox, who reside on a farm. They express their concern over how the farming industry has changed over time. They highlight how nothing remains as natural as it used to be. For example, they reveal how their farming process has changed and affected the animals they raise. The film shows a disturbing scene of many little chicks being crowded together in a small space in a farmhouse. The chicks are fed with a mix designed to make them grow faster. These mixes are known to be linked to various health issues, with the most extreme being death. Using chemicals in these mixes makes the entire process unnatural and raises serious concerns about the safety of the animals being raised for food. This depiction of the farming industry reminds us of the serious issues that plague the food industry today and the need for greater transparency and accountability in our food systems.

The movie I watched recently had a profound impact on me. It was an eye-opener and gave me a glimpse into the harsh realities of the farming industry. The very first scene of the movie was so gripping that it immediately grabbed my attention and made me ponder about the meat I consume regularly. The visuals were so vivid that I couldn't help but think about using chemicals in the meat I eat. The experience prompted me to explore healthier options for natural meat free from harmful additives.

  1. what they said surprised me they seemed as if they were defending the new way of farming. They mentioned controlling the temperature the air and the litter they were on. It then shows the warning sign on the litter of causing skin irritation and breathing tract issue although I'm sure that the warning for humans can only wonder the effect of the animal consuming. Yet they said the health of the bird now because of the control they have is better. that nothing is unhealthy the chickens are just bred to grow faster. Seems they were just defending their income as they mentioned it's not as laborious as before.

  2. The portrayal of the realities faced by animals and the environment in modern farming practices in indeed eye-opening and thought-provoking. I found each one of the stories of the individuals in this film was interesting, and found an appreciation for those trying to make a difference. Your reaction to the film, particularly in reconsidering the meat you consume and exploring healthier options underscores the message this film was giving. If more people had such a change of heart perhaps the industrial farms can start to diminish. Regardless, I enjoyed your blog and description of the film, good job!

  4. Hi Angel!
Your blog was very descriptive and was organized from the beginning to the end. I agree it was quite disturbing when they were throwing the baby chickens all harsh. The fact that Mr. and Mrs. Fox thought they were doing something great is mind-boggling because all that unnatural ingredients going into those chickens then the chickens reproducing eggs then us eating it! Makes me wonder about everything I eat now. Overall, I enjoyed your blog!

  5. I would argue that the inclusion of the Foxes is used to show the lack of engagement and investment that these big industry farmers have in comparison to the genuine interest and enthusiasm shown by the local, individual farmers in the film.
